Eagle Scout Community Service Project - A Solar Science Community Education Workshop

An Eagle Scout community service project is required for advancement to the rank of Eagle in the Boy Scouts of America. If you are a Life Scout looking for a service project that will be a great learning experience, consider building a solar panel and providing a community education service for your community. It will be a practical science application for the 21'st century.

Benefits

Kids Workshop

Your Eagle Scout community service project project will help people in your community learn about solar power. It will show you how to save money on your future electric bills. For some of you, this project may provide the motivation to enter a new and exciting career in solar energy.

How to get started

Before you start a solar science project, you must get approval of your proposal by your Scout organization. Your Eagle Scout community service project must demonstrate your leadership by as you coordinate and direct others. It must be helpful to a religious organization, school or your community.

If you do decide to build a solar panel as your required Eagle Scout community service project, make sure you achieve the required merit badges for Eagle. Select other merit badges related to solar science.

You might contact a local science teacher and ask to give a workshop in a science class. Or you might work with a youth group in a local religious institution and do a workshop on how solar energy can help save planet earth.

You don't have to be scientist or an engineer to understand and build a solar panel. If you like to work with your hands - if you learn all you can about your project, plan carefully, obtain materials and any necessary tools, and take it step by step -- you can do it!

After you have studied and understand how to build a solar panel, and you have assembled all the materials you will need, you can build your solar panel in a weekend. You might recruit some volunteers from the science class or the youth group to help you assemble your solar panel.
